Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will be closing in early January 2024 for another lengthy refurbishment at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. If it feels like a little bit of deja vu, that’s because the 24-year-old roller coaster was closed last year from February through May as crews attempted to address reliability issues.
When it reopened, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster returned with vibrant sets and the familiar Aerosmith theme that the coaster has had since it opened in 1999. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the reliability issues were fixed, with the roller coaster experiencing some amount of downtime on a daily basis.
Disney has not commented on the work to be done during the refurbishment. The Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster refurbishment is scheduled to begin on January 8th and last through at least February, which is as far out as the refurbishment calendar currently goes.
As with any refurbishment over the past few years, there will be rumblings of a retheme to the ride. Disney has not announced any changes to the attraction, and BlogMickey.com has reached out to Disney for more information about the refurbishment.
Back in June 2023, it was revealed that Jeff Yorkes, the co-creator of the Disney+ series “The Muppets Mayhem” confirmed that the original pitch for the show included a retheme of Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster. That said, The Muppets Mayhem has reportedly been canceled after just one season, perhaps greatly lowering the chances that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will be having Muppets in the studio anytime soon.
In any event, if you’re visiting Walt Disney World in early 2024, it’s likely that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will be closed for a lengthy refurbishment.
