Blizzard Beach Water Park to Close Starting September 8th, Likely for Annual Refurbishment

Well, it’s been fun. After the first summer of both Walt Disney World water parks operating for the first time since 2019, Blizzard Beach is scheduled to close on September 8th. The closure, hinted at by Disney in their original announcement that both water parks would reopen, is likely for annual refurbishment – something quite common in the pre-COVID operating cadence for the water parks. In fact, the water parks would typically have staggered refurbishment schedules throughout the fall, winter, and early spring periods to prepare them for all-summer operation.

Blizzard Beach Water Park Closing Sept. 8

Starting September 8th, Blizzard Beach water park will be closed to guests, with Typhoon Lagoon being the only water park expected to operate during the fall and early winter. If we look back at pre-COVID operating schedules, we can expect Blizzard Beach to reopen sometime in the winter, giving Typhoon Lagoon some refurbishment time before both water parks (hopefully) reopen for Summer 2026.

Interestingly, Blizzard Beach was the most recent water park to close for refurbishment. Before both water parks opened on May 21st, Blizzard Beach was closed for a brief refurbishment from May 1 to May 20. That is nowhere near long enough to qualify for an “annual refurbishment”, which is why the park is closing this September.

We’ve been enjoying the holiday vibes at Blizzard Beach in recent years, so hopefully the water park will be open sometime in November. If I had to wager a guess, that’s a little bit too soon when compared to pre-COVID schedules, but who knows what Disney will do this year.

As of publish time, Walt Disney World has not officially announced the Blizzard Beach closure (beyond the park operating hours calendar), and they have not announced a reopening timeframe for the water park.

If there is one thing that is certain, the water parks will continue to be busy thanks to Walt Disney World’s promotional offer that gives on-site guests a free day at the water parks on their check-in day for their vacation.

This offer will continue through the end of 2025 before being discontinued briefly in early 2026. Walt Disney World has announced that the perk will return in Summer 2026 and that more details will be shared next year.
