Disney World continues to capture updated aerial photography and video of its theme parks. We first reported about the low-altitude photography a couple of days ago when we spotted a helicopter flying around Magic Kingdom. Disney World has also captured photography of the other theme parks.
Tonight, the helicopter is back, capturing updated nighttime photography of EPCOT and Magic Kingdom. What is notable about tonight’s photography/filming is that Disney is capturing during the nightly fireworks show. As you can see from our screenshot below, Disney was flying over EPCOT earlier this evening for Luminous (and more) before heading to a position over the Seven Seas Lagoon during Happily Ever After. The helicopter also performed sweeping maneuvers across Main Street USA during the show, likely for a more dynamic shot.
Flying this low through the “no-fly zone” is not typically allowed except for first responders. A temporary flight restriction put in place following the events of September 11th, 2001, and it restricts aircraft from flying below 3,000 feet over Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom fall outside of the radius of the flight-restricted area.
Hopefully, we get to see some of the photography and video soon! It’s also likely that the Soarin’ Around the World film will benefit from the filming now that construction walls have mostly been removed from EPCOT following the completion of the overhaul project. Soarin’ Around the World still had the old EPCOT finale when it returned earlier this year.
