Disney Undertakes Aerial Photography of Magic Kingdom

|

Photographers for Walt Disney World have taken to the skies over Magic Kingdom this morning to capture a construction-less theme park. While visiting Magic Kingdom, we noticed a helicopter flying much lower than the 3,000ft limit – flying at an altitude of about 600 feet above The Most Magical Place on Earth.

The helicopter pattern, seen below, shows that the photography was focused on Magic Kingdom and the area resorts around the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake.

Flying this low through the “no-fly zone” is not typically allowed except for first responders. A temporary flight restriction put in place following the events of September 11th, 2001, and it restricts aircraft from flying below 3,000 feet over Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom fall outside of the radius of the flight-restricted area.

Here’s a look at the helicopter, which contained a nose-mounted camera, flying past Cinderella Castle and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

A Disney photographer hangs out the open door, taking photos of the area. It’s likely that another person was operating the nose-mounted camera. Hopefully, Disney publishes the photos so we can get a unique, low-altitude view of Magic Kingdom!

  1. I have a feeling they’ll use this to show/create before and after photos and concept art of what the Beyond Big Thunder project changes will end up looking like from above.
