New aerial photos from Bioreconstruct show demolition continuing and expanding across the Lost Continent at Universal’s Islands of Adventure. The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad theater is actively coming down. Meanwhile, the former Poseidon’s Fury area is now drained and cleared for what appears to be the next phase of work.

  • What does the demolition site look like now, and how much remains standing?
  • What is happening in the former Poseidon’s Fury area?
  • What will replace the Lost Continent at Islands of Adventure?

Universal confirmed plans to demolish the Lost Continent in September 2025, filing permits covering roughly 5 acres of the land. The latest aerials from Bioreconstruct show work is now active on two fronts at once.

SINDBAD THEATER DEMOLITION UNDERWAY

The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad show building is mid-demolition. A large portion still stands. The roof is intact, and the steel frame is upright across much of the footprint. However, multiple excavators are on site. A substantial pile of demolished steel framing and debris has accumulated along the cleared perimeter. The surrounding cleared ground extends well beyond the building itself, and crews are clearing the ornate archways and decorative stonework near the former entrance.

The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad stunt show ran from the park’s 1999 opening. It closed permanently in 2018. The theater sat dormant for years after that, its interior untouched.

POSEIDON’S FURY AREA DRAINED AND CLEARED

The aerials also capture the Poseidon’s Fury area with some notable changes. Workers drained the attraction’s exterior moat and waterway, exposing the rockwork and basin beneath. Trees are being cleared in the area. The themed rock formations and columns remain standing for now, as does the trident sculpture above the former entrance. The Mythos Restaurant dome is visible nearby, still intact and currently open. Construction walls separate the work zone from the active guest pathway.

Poseidon’s Fury closed permanently in 2023 and has sat idle since. The drained water feature and cleared ground point to the demolition of this section soon. No large structures have been removed yet.

WHAT COMES NEXT

Universal confirmed in May that venues and experiences across Lost Continent will close in phases. Mythos Restaurant is set to close in 2027. Universal has not announced what will replace the land. With demolition touching both the Sindbad theater and the Poseidon’s Fury area underway, the pace of demolition is accelerating.
