EPCOT’s Odyssey Pavilion Gets a New Summertime Venue: Light Lounge

|

|

Signage for a new summertime venue called the Light Lounge at the Odyssey has appeared at EPCOT’s Odyssey Pavilion. We spotted the sign on the building’s entrance while walking around EPCOT recently. We understand that the Light Lounge is set to open soon, though Disney has not officially announced the venue. Here’s what we saw and what we have heard so far.

Light Lounge at The Odyssey to Open Soon at EPCOT

THE SIGNAGE

The sign reads “LIGHT LOUNGE at the ODYSSEY” and spans the full width of the building’s main entrance. The branding has EPCOT’s retro-futuristic feel, consistent with the Odyssey’s mid-century modern architecture. The signage features bold white lettering on a colorful iridescent purple, blue, and pink geometric background.

A rope line still blocks the entrance, and the interior is not yet open to guests. However, we understand that it should be open by next Friday, June 12th. Disney has not officially announced the venue or an opening date yet.

WHAT WE KNOW

Disney has not announced anything about the Light Lounge, and no permit filings have indicated what the venue will offer. The name and the lounge-style branding suggest a relaxed space inside the Odyssey, which has primarily served as overflow dining and event space in recent years. My best guess is that it functions as an air-conditioned lounge for guests to get out of the Florida heat, potentially with drinks or light bites.

We’ll have more details as they become available. If the June 12 date holds, announcements from Disney could come soon.

OUR TAKE: Anything to get guests out of the sun during the Diet EPCOT (Festival free) period over the Summer is a welcome addition. In fact, we’d like to see Disney take this a step further. While a full-blown Summer Festival is likely off the table due to concerns with heat, we’d love to see Disney lean into unused or underutilized spaces to offer guests more shade.

The top spot that comes to mind is the World Showplace tent between the Canada Pavilion and the United Kingdom Pavilion. This sprawling tent is used for special events, but is rarely used for guest-facing offerings. If Disney really wanted to, they could offer a fully indoor dining and entertainment venue for the hot summer months. That would be an amazing win for guests, but we’re not sure if it’ll ever happen.
