Safety Concerns Close Main Entrance to Spaceship Earth

The main entrance to Spaceship Earth at EPCOT has been closed for days. Cast Members at the attraction told us the closure comes down to an unsafe condition at the walkway beneath the geodesic sphere. Guests are entering through a makeshift entrance at the side of the attraction for now. Here’s a closer look.

  • What Cast Members told us about why the main entrance is closed
  • Where guests enter Spaceship Earth right now
  • Why the makeshift entrance sits so far back from the sphere

Spaceship Earth remains open, but guests take a different route than usual to reach the entrance. Barriers block the main entrance below the sphere. A makeshift entrance at the side of the attraction has taken its place. We stopped by EPCOT to photograph both locations and learn more about the change.

At the main entrance, a black strap between stanchions now closes off the walkway beneath the Lightning Lane and Stand-by Entrance signs. A small sign on the barrier reads “Exit Please Do Not Enter,” and blue padded covers wrap the posts beside it. Black mats remain on the ground, and a purple Entrance flag still hangs from the strap. Above, the underside of the sphere shows what appear to be water streaks.

Why the Main Entrance Is Closed

Cast Members explained that water dripping from Spaceship Earth, mainly during rain, creates an unsafe condition at the main entrance. When the belly of the geodesic sphere drips, the walkway underneath becomes very slippery. That walkway is the one guests normally use to enter the attraction.

We imagine that a solution is in the works, though we don’t have a timeline for when the main entrance will reopen.

Spaceship Earth has seen other exterior work this year. The exterior panel refresh that began in August 2025 has focused on the flat panels along the Project Tomorrow building. Disney also announced a reimagining of Spaceship Earth at D23 in August, though we don’t know yet whether that project will address the dripping.

Where to Enter Spaceship Earth for Now

The makeshift entrance sits well back from the sphere, at the start of a path along the side of the attraction. An A-frame sign near the front directs Standby and Lightning Lane guests in different directions, and Cast Members stand nearby.

The entrance sits this far back so guests walk past a warning sign before they enter. A caution on the sign reads “Those who are made uncomfortable by enclosed, dark spaces should not ride.” It also reminds guests to supervise children at all times and includes a Must Transfer icon.

The side route adds a longer walk to the queue, and Spaceship Earth remains open for riders.
