While visiting EPCOT recently, we took a spin on the monorail system, which offers the best possible view of the ongoing Test Track reimagining project. Test Track will likely be closed into 2025 (if not longer) as Imagineers bring the third iteration of this ride to life.
So far, a single piece of concept art has been released of the interior, showing a much more lush, realistic scene than the fan-dubbed TRON Track version of the ride that closed nearly a month ago.
Disney says that Imagineers, along with teams from Chevrolet, are reaching back into history for inspiration from the original World of Motion and bringing that spirit of optimism to the next iteration of the Test Track attraction.
We imagine that we’ll hear more details and perhaps see some new concept art for the Test Track reimagining at this year’s D23 Expo in early August. For a look at the full schedule for the D23 Expo, check out our article below.
The exterior of the ride will also get a refresh, but as we’ll see shortly, work remains focused on the interior portion of the ride. Here’s a look at concept art for the exterior, which sees the removal of the canopy, and a new overhang at the entrance to the attraction.
Back to our recent visit. We can see that the canopy is very much still in place, and large trash bins are being filled. We’ve seen these bins filled and emptied a few times over the past few weeks as the interior of the building is gutted.
Here’s another look at the canopy as the monorail passes by the construction site. It’s likely that the canopy will remain standing for a while as crews focus on the interior of the ride.
Looking toward the exit to the attraction, there isn’t much movement to report on just yet.
