Earlier today, a Notice of Commencement permit was filed for Test Track. The permit owner is Walt Disney Imagineering, with Icarus Exhibits listed as the contractor. The scope of work is listed as “install set elements”. Icarus Exhibits has done a number of projects for Walt Disney World, including Toy Story Land, TRON: Lightcycle Run, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Tangled theming at Magic Kingdom, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and much more! Icarus is a design and build company founded in 1987 just down the road from Disney World. Their specialty is creating intentional, themed designs that bring immersive environments to life – something they’ve been doing with Disney since the 1990s when they first worked with Imagineers at Magic Kingdom.
What to expect from this particular permit remains a mystery. Icarus has worked on props such as the larger-than-life Toy Story characters in Toy Story Land to themed signage in the TRON Lightcycle Run queue to Food & Wine Festival booths. They have also created props such as the ship atop Docking Bay 7 in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and the static droids that can be found within the land. What they’re building is less important than the fact that Imagineering has had an impressively steady stream of permits attached to the Test Track reimagining project. They’re working quickly on this and Walt Disney World has previously announced a 2025 opening timeframe.
Test Track 3.0 Description
Walt Disney Imagineering is collaborating with Chevrolet to push innovation forward and celebrate humanity’s enduring drive (pun intended) on the thrilling road to a brighter tomorrow. Imagineers are reaching back into history for inspiration – from the original World of Motion – and bringing that spirit of optimism to the next iteration of the Test Track attraction. But, before we get too far down this winding road, Test Track will celebrate today’s innovation while highlighting the past, present, and future. The queue will feature six distinct exhibits, and within each room celebrate the vehicles – and people behind the vehicles – that push the envelope and help get people to our next chapter in our motion journey.
New show scenes will be added showcasing technological advances and how our lifestyles and relationships to mobility connect everyone. Enjoy a joy ride through scenes focusing on onboard technology, customization and personalization. Followed by a trip through a scenic outdoor route reminding us all of the joys of driving, taking in the world around us and spending quality time with friends and family.
