Earlier this week, a permit was filed by Walt Disney World, outlining the demolition of parts of the DinoLand USA land, as well as the construction of new elements for the upcoming Tropical Americas land that is set to debut in 2027. The permit actually offers some excellent insight as to what the finished layout of the Tropical Americas land will look like in a few years. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the newly filed permit, along with some new details found for the upcoming Tropical Americas land!
New Tropical Americas Land Details Found in Permit
The most interesting info that we’ve found so far while combing through the permit is the image below. It shows the pre-development layout for DinoLand USA, followed by the post-development layout of the Tropical Americas land. Of course, we’re more interested in the post-development image, so let’s dive in and see what we can glean from the permit.
Before we get too far into permit peeking, you should have a working knowledge of the existing DinoLand USA layout, attractions, and offerings. For more on that, including on-the-ground photos, check out our walking tour of DinoLand USA in the article below.
Tropical Americas Main Entrance & Character Carousel
We’ll start at the beginning, with a look at the entrance to the land, the main plaza area, and the character carousel. First, there are two structures that remain in place throughout the work. The first is a backstage building near the back of the current Boneyard area, and the second is the Trilo-Bites snack stand.
New buildings will include the character carousel where the Boneyard currently sits. A new thematic structure where the Dig Site currently sits. The animal habitats will demolished and filled in to create a central plaza area, complete with a feature fountain. New structures will be created roughly over the southern portion of the current TriceraTop Spin attraction currently is located. Finally, the Encanto attraction will take up a significant portion of the land, with the outdoor portion of the queue placed where the Dino-Rama games are currently.
Here’s a numbered look at the changes discussed above.
- Trilo-Bites structure
- Backstage structure at the Boneyard
- Character carousel
- New themed structure on right side of land entrance walkway
- Central plaza with feature fountain
- Restaurantosaurus
- New themed structures near Encanto attraction
- Entrance and outdoor queue for Encanto attraction
- Backstage access area
- Encanto attraction and themed Casita facade
Restaurant, Possible New Play Area, Merchandise, and More
As we continue through the permit, we’re going to continue to move south to take a look at some interesting layouts that may indicate some unannounced elements coming to the Tropical Americas land.
- Quick Service Restaurant (rethemed from Restaurantosaurus to Tropical Americas hacienda)
- The Cretaceous Trail will be demolished and expanded significantly into what appears to be a new themed area, perhaps a play area or an exploration area
- The existing Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures gift shop structure will remain, but there’s also something new here, more on that in a minute
- This is currently a backstage area that could become an on-stage walkway area. It’s unclear where the Encanto-themed attraction exit will be located, but a guess is that it will either be in the area marked #4 or a little further up the path above #3
- This is the main walkway to the Indiana Jones-themed attraction. It looks like the walkway will be narrowed slightly. It looks like the outdoor queue portion of the ride will see little to no changes in layout.
- Turning our attention back to the gift shop area, a brand new building will be built and current rumors are that it will house a meet & greet area
