It’s a big news day today with the news that Monsters Inc. Land will be replacing Muppets Courtyard and the MuppetVision 3D theater show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Imagineers are keen to keep The Muppets in the park, and are sending them over to Sunset Boulevard to take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in the future. However, that does mean that the MuppetVision 3D attraction will be closed and replaced. Disney says that they will have an all-new theater show in the venue.
Disney Explores Ways to Preserve MuppetVision 3D
In the announcement, Disney said that they’re having “creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the [MuppetVision 3D] experience”. Here’s the quote:
As we move forward with these changes, we are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.
At the very least, Disney would be able to throw the film up on Disney+, but the part about preserving “other parts of the experience” certainly raises eyebrows. It’s unclear what Disney will do at this time, but here’s to hoping that they can figure out a way to save some of the physical parts of the attraction experience as well.

Just move the racing academy away, and put the Great muppet movie ride (that was originally planned for the park) in it’s place, and include a section devoted to muppet vision 3d. The rockin rollercoaster is becoming muppet themed, so you could just have a whole mupept area devoted to the creativity of music and movies. Seems very hollywood studios and jim Henson to me.
They are adding 2 cars attractions to magic kingdom and the racing academy had low attendance anyway. I see this as a win-win-win-win-win-win.
The racing academy has already been closed and being replaced with a villains themed show. I don’t know why they would put that in HS instead of the new villains land at MK though. Some of the decisions they are making make no sense really.
That’s a great idea!
Sad to hear Disney studios is getting rid of muppet 3D, and muppet square. Although the parks have to move on and progress. Don’t think the Disney parks have the same welcome to them now anyway, everything has to be reserved to get in. Muppets was probably one of the last few things that made it fun going to Disney mgm studios as was now Disney Hollywood studios. Muppet and movies and behind scenes of animation and films used to be what is was about there. Shame some of that has got lost In the point of being about films. Great movie ride and backlot tour sadly missed too.
Very, very sad. MuppetVision 3D was one of our favorites and one of the few remaining reasons we would go to DHS.
If they are doing anything to HOP they should just take the few props that make up this show and out them in there.
I would wager many, many more people care about The Muppets than ever care about Monsters Inc – which will not fill the space for as long.
