In an updated statement, Walt Disney World has reiterated that they are looking to preserve the MuppetVision 3D film and parts of the experience. Disney originally announced its intent to preserve parts of the MuppetVision experience in a November 2024 statement. In this updated statement, Disney seems to be indicating that whatever solution they may have in mind is quite long-term, with Disney looking to preserve the film and experience “for generations to come”.

MuppetVision 3D Preservation “For Generations to Come”
Here’s a look at the updated statement:
It’s no secret that the Muppets have a special place in our hearts and we are exploring ways to preserve the Muppet*Vision 3D film and other parts of the experience for generations to come.
Disney’s previous statement about their plans only said that they would try to preserve elements of the attraction for fans to enjoy “in the future”. Here’s Disney’s previous statement:
As we move forward with these changes, we are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.
This new statement clarifying that Disney is looking to preserve the MuppetVision 3D film and parts of the experience “for generations to come” suggests that the plans are for a long-term preservation, not just something “in the future”, which could’ve just been a temporary exhibit or something in the next few years.
In terms of what Disney could do, there are options, ranging from simple to complex. On the simple side of things, Disney could upload the MuppetVision 3D film to Disney+. I’m not sure what hurdles Disney may have to jump through to get the film onto its streaming service, but debuting it the day after the attraction closes would be the least that they could do.
On the more complex side of things, they could relocate the entire thing. That’s probably out of the question, and it’s worth parsing Disney’s statements about what they’re actually setting out to do. In each version of the statement, Disney essentially says that preserving the film is going to happen and that they’re going to preserve “parts” of the experience. That is, relocating the entire thing is very likely out of the question.

The solution will likely fall somewhere in between. Everything from an exhibit featuring props and the full film to a full recording in Virtual Reality is probably on the table.
Of course, The Muppets will also be moving within Disney’s Hollywood Studios as they take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. Walt Disney World recently said that “Kermit, Miss Piggy and friends are soon headed just across the park to their new home on Sunset Boulevard”.

MuppetVision 3D will have its final day of operation on June 7th, but construction walls will start appearing by the end of March. For more on what to expect with the phased closure of the land, check out our article below!

Disney stepped on its crank with this one. MuppetVision 3D is beloved by a diehard core of fans, of which we are two. With our respective health issues and tight retiree budgets, our next WDW visit is likely our last, so we will enjoy one more MuppetVision visit.
They should move the whole kit and caboodle to the Magic Eye Theater in Epcot. Hardly anybody goes to the Pixar Short Fest, all of which I had already seen on Disney+. They could still create a new Figment ride next door in the Imagination Pavilion, but the Muppets would be a perfect compliment and something to attract people while the Pavilion is being updated.
Why is “relocating the entire (Muppet Vision 3D) very likely out of the question?” By 1967, Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress had been moved all the way from the New York World’s Fair to Anaheim, California, and by 1975 back across the country to Orlando, Florida. What is the distance from one side of Hollywood Studios to the other? A quarter of a mile? There is an available theater space near the soon-to-become Muppets Roller Coaster. Carousel was a respected Walt project; Muppets 3D was Jim Henson’s final theme park project. Come on, guys: spend some money to show some respect.
As noted in the preceding sentence, Walt Disney World has only said that they are looking to preserve parts of the experience, not the entire thing, which is why it is unlikely that they’ll relocate the entire thing.
The theater next to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is not empty. That’s where Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After will debut this Summer
