Canada Booth Review – 2022 EPCOT Food and Wine Festival

Making its return this year is the Canada Global Marketplace and we made our way out to EPCOT recently to give it a try! Here’s our Canada booth review from the 2022 EPCOT Food and Wine Festival.

Canadian Cheddar and Bacon Soup – $5.75

    Served with a pretzel roll

    Rating: 4 out of 5.

A classic, the Canadian Cheddar and Bacon soup is a hearty portion, served warm with just enough of a pretzel roll to allow for dipping and some leftover to scoop up. We appreciate that the pretzel roll is unsalted, which allows the cheddar and bacon soup to stand alone as the main attraction. Of course, any soup in the summer isn’t going to be a great idea, but the flavors here are wonderful and this remains a solid option (especially as the Festival draws down in November).

“Le Cellier” Wild Mushroom Beef Filet Mignon – $9.25

    Served with truffle-butter sauce

    Rating: 3 out of 5.

A nearly $10 filet mignon demands a critical review. In our case, the truffle-butter sauce was wonderful (as were the mushrooms), but the filet itself had problems.

As you can see below, the filet was overcooked and not tender. Not quite a hamburger, but getting there. If you’re sitting down at Le Cellier, you can order to temperature and it will be prepared to your liking. For us, the filet was overcooked and missed the mark. You get what you get in a Festival, but this isn’t really worth the asking price even if we liked everything else on the plate.

    Beverages

    • Collective Arts Audio/Visual Lager – $5/9 (6/12oz)
    • Château des Charmes Cabernet-Merlot Estate – $7.00

Canada has rested on its laurels for some time now and we imagine that we’ll see some changes next year. We’d stop by just for the soup, but the filet might be on the chopping block for next year (or at least it probably should be if it can’t be presented properly). If you are lucky and get a properly cooked and tender filet mignon, it’s a wonderful dish, but there’s too much variability for us to recommend giving it a shot right now.
