Tokyo Disney Resort Pushes Back Reopening Announcement Due to Government Orders

While the past 24-48 hours has been mostly filled with news of Disney theme parks and more reopening, Tokyo Disneyland has offered an update of their own. In the update, Tokyo Disneyland says that they will have to push back their previously scheduled reopening announcement due to nationwide stay-at-home orders. Tokyo Disneyland had previously scheduled a mid-May update, but a nationwide stay-at-home order in place through May 31st has delayed their announcement. Here is the update from Tokyo Disneyland, emphasis added by BlogMickey.com:

The temporary closures of Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea have been extended in response to the state of infections of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) as well as requests from the government and local municipalities.

The reopening of the Parks was to be decided in mid-May; however, based on the extension of the state of emergency declaration, hereafter, the decision on the reopening date will be made and announced once the requests from Government and local municipalities have been lifted.

Additionally, the opening date for the Tokyo Disneyland major expansion area will be determined once the situation can be gauged after reopening both parks.

The last line of the update is referencing the Fantasyland expansion and an all-new Beauty and the Beast-themed mini-land. The Beauty and the Beast-themed area was originally scheduled to open April 15, 2020 and feature a dark ride, shops, dining, entertainment, and more.

Thankfully, Disney has made enough progress with the land that nothing will be cut. Stateside, Disney is saving roughly $900 million this year alone by delaying construction and refurbishment projects around the theme parks.
