When Will The Hall of Presidents Reopen at Magic Kingdom?

On the eve of the Fourth of July, we can’t help but wonder when the Hall of Presidents reopen at Magic Kingdom. We’ll do a quick recap of where we are before taking a look at some of the historical data.

Back in November 2020, now-President Joe Biden beat then-President Donald Trump in the election for President of the United States. As challenges went through the court system and were dismissed, Disney was largely silent on the future of the Hall of Presidents attraction at Magic Kingdom. Throughout the remainder of 2020, Disney remained silent and the Hall of Presidents remained open.

It wasn’t until Inauguration Day (January 20, 2021) that Disney closed the Hall of Presidents and confirmed that President Biden would get an animatronic in the attraction.

Now, as the attraction remains closed and Disney silent for the past 5+ months, we wanted to look back at recent closures and speculate on when the attraction will reopen.

Here’s a look at the recent closure timelines:

    • President Biden – 164 days and counting – closed January 20, 2021, reopening date unknown
    • President Trump – 336 days – closed January 17, 2017, reopened December 19, 2017
    • President Obama – 246 days – closed October 31, 2008, reopened July 4, 2009
    • President George W. Bush – 1 month – closed September 2001, reopened October 2001
    • President Clinton – 1 month – closed September 1993, reopened October 1993

While we’ve seen some executives and creatives outside of the Hall of Presidents, there are no obvious signs of change from outside of the attraction. During the last change from Obama to Trump, the theater and show underwent a refurbishment – perhaps adding some additional downtime to the turnover.

If we had to guess, we think Disney would likely want the attraction open for their 50th Anniversary in October. Despite the polarization of politics in recent times, the attraction is still a classic, original attraction that will be turning 50 years old this October with the rest of Magic Kingdom.
