Disney World has taken the step of canceling more Finding Nemo: The Big Blue..and Beyond! shows into next week as performers reportedly are falling ill. Up until today, Disney was cancelling shows on the day of their performance, but Disney has now removed the 10:30am and 4:30pm showtimes through Monday, June 20th. The showtimes are currently set to return on Tuesday, June 21st.
Finding Nemo: The Big Blue…and Beyond! returned on June 13th, but only the first day had the full lineup of showtimes. Starting June 14th, and every day since then, the first and last showtime have been removed on a daily basis.
With the show still early in its return, sources have indicated that the show isn’t staffed as well as Disney would like, but that more performers are set to return soon. Because of the lack of backups, a few callouts can ruin a day. The Cast Members who are healthy have had a lot asked of them as other Cast stay home to recover. A specific illness wasn’t noted.
This is not the first time that we’ve seen an illness impact a show. Multiple performances of “Tale of the Lion King” were canceled at Disneyland when the show returned due to Cast Members falling ill.
As Disney continues to bring back entertainment offerings, we’re told that entertainment Cast Members are asked to work more than they were before COVID-19 changed staffing levels. In May, already stretched-thin Cast Members were not able to perform the Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade at Magic Kingdom. Staffing levels did not allow for the parade to be performed, and Disney fell back to a cavalcade for that day.
