During the 2022 D23 Expo, the Wonderful World of Dreams pavilion provided attendees with a first look at the future of Disney theme parks.

One of the things on display was a model of the reimagined area in Toontown near the El CapiTOON Theater, which will serve as the entrance to Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Disneyland. We stopped by the pavilion to take some detailed photos of the model and take a look at what Disney has planned for the area!

The model shows not only the entrance to Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, but also the city center that surrounds the El CapiTOON Theater.

Starting on the left side of the model, we find Good Boy! Grocers. This is a Toontown farmers market that will offer grab-and-go drinks and treats.

It looks like the Ink & Paint facade will remain.

Next door, Daisy’s Diner will be replaced by Cafe Daisy. The sidewalk table eatery will serve diner classics.

Mobile Order will be available.

Toontown City Hall and the surrounding area looks largely unchanged.

Where we start to see some significant changes is the El CapiTOON Theater, which is all-new and will serve as the entrance to Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.

During the “A Boundless Future” Disney Parks panel, Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro shared some new concept art of the queue that guests will pass through. A special exhibit created by the Toontown Hysterical Society is celebrating all things Mickey with costumes and props from the toon world. The exhibit features several items guests may recognize from classics including “Steamboat Willie” and “Plane Crazy”…

…all the way through more modern favorites such as “Mickey’s Christmas Carol” and iconic music releases.

There will be some changes to the ride at Disneyland, but for a general idea of what to expect, check out our ride through below.
