DeSantis’ Office Responds to Disney World Lawsuit

Following a lawsuit filed by Disney World against Ron DeSantis and his hand-picked Board of Supervisors of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, DeSantis’ office has responded. According to Scott Gustin, DeSantis’ communications director Taryn Fenske has responded by sidestepping the claims by Disney in the lawsuit, instead framing it as Disney’s attempt to “undermine the will of the Florida voters and operate outside the law”:

We are unaware of any legal right that a company has to operate its own government or maintain special privileges not held by other businesses in the state.

This lawsuit is yet another unfortunate example of their hope to undermine the will of the Florida voters and operate outside the bounds of the law.

    1. Its obviously retaliation, since Florida has 2000 + special districts in the State, hopefully judge puts injunction on there board and Dehitler loses big

    2. How can governor say this is what the voters want when we never voted on state taking over Reedy Creek

    3. What do you mean by Disney having it’s own goverment ?
Do they have state inspections on their Life Safety equipment and rides ?
Disney has alot of money but should NOT have their own goverment.
There was a death at an amusement park last year. As we all know..
When something like this happens they automatically review all inspection
documents. When they find discrepancies or oversite …They go
back and check everyone. Example: Fire Hydrants MUST have a flow test annually. This has to be done by a qualified contractor and you Must present this documentation on your annual town inspection. If there is a problem ..you have to have it fixed in a certain time frame (usually 30 days). Elevators … same thing.
I am not sure why this is all of a sudden ..but someone may have been angry and reported it. There is alot of that in all businesses. TOWN AND STATE inspections are for everyone’s protection. I don’t know anymore than you do.
We only see what the news reports and I don’t believe any of them.

    4. Florida’s first claim is patently false: thousands of districts exist to give individual businesses specific rights or benefits not enjoyed by all businesses.

Curious about the second claim. Was Disney’s special district status a campaign issue in the last election?

Not that it matters- this is just a feeble attempt at distracting DeSantis’s base from the true issue the suit will be decided on.

    5. I can not believe this Republicans trying to finish with the most popular Theme Parks in Florida.
Can imagine DESANTIS for US President?Terrible

    6. They did operate for 50 + years and also paid their taxes and their own infrastructure. Not retaliation mmmmm, well when was this situation a problem before the ‘ The don’t say gay bill’ ??
This guy wants to President- Scary

    7. He won’t be president this go round. He won’t beat Trump for the nomination. I don’t want either of them president.
