Ahead of the March 28th meeting of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board of Supervisors this Friday, the District has released the meeting packet. In the packet, we’re learning more details about the financial support that the District is proposing for a study related to the “Sunshine Corridor” train connecting the Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Disney Springs (among other Central Florida destinations).

CFTOD Proposes Support of Train Connecting Walt Disney World and MCO

As we reported over the weekend, the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District is proposing financial support for a train connecting Disney Springs and MCO. The agenda item will be heard this Friday, and it will be presented by District Administrator Stephanie Kopelousos. A presentation from the District Administrator is about as close to a green light as you can get without actual approval, so we expect the agenda item will pass.

The packet says that the district is requesting approval from the Board of Supervisors to allow $500,000 in District contributions to a PD&E study to lay the foundation for future connections to the Orlando International Airport, the Orange County Convention Center and Disney Springs/South I-Drive area.

The packet says that a potential Disney Springs station would provide an alternative transportation opportunity directly benefiting the District’s many residents, employees and visitors.

The packet says that supporting the Florida Department of Transportation study is consistent with the District’s Comprehensive Plan, and that the study provides potential opportunities to directly benefit all residents, employees and visitors within the District. District staff are recommending an approval of the funds.

According to information from the District, funding for this study is included in the District’s FY2025 budget. CFOTD legal has already reviewed the plan.
