What Is Disney World Building Next to the Imagination Pavilion at EPCOT?

For years, there have been construction walls erected next to the Imagination Pavilion at EPCOT. Recently, there has actually been some new construction in the area which begs the question: what is Disney building? In this article, we’ll attempt to answer that question definitively.

First, here’s a look at the area from a recent visit to EPCOT. Up until this point, crews have been focused on some underground utility work, but dirt in the foreground has been replaced as the underground work starts to make its way south across the site.

Zooming in a bit, we can see that some hardscape work is underway. The other side of the construction wall is a walkway from World Celebration to World Showcase.

While this area has historically been used for Festival kiosks, and some have speculated that’s what the current work is for, we think the work is for a different offering set to debut later this year. Here’s a blurb from Disney that may offer a clue:

Be sure to check out the all-new mural at the heart of World Celebration to see how many of the 100 Disney characters you can find in the incredible scene. This expansive mural located along the walkway to World Showcase will feature some of your favorite characters hidden throughout the various neighborhoods of EPCOT. The rest of World Celebration will also be decked out in Disney100 platinum banners and décor.

There’s a bit of confusing language about where this mural will end up, but we think that the work taking place in the “Rosewalk” area seen above is for the mural. Confusingly, Disney refers to the location of the mural as being in “the heart of World Celebration”, but then describes it as being located “along the walkway to World Showcase”. We’re going to take that second description and run with it. Obviously, most guests will think that the “heart of World Celebration” is where the EPCOT-themed planter will be as seen below.

As seen in the early August aerial photo below, there doesn’t seem to be a dedicated space for an extensive mural as described by Disney.

Instead, it would make more sense that the mural would be located next to the Imagination Pavilion in an area that typically changes purpose rather frequently. A (temporary) mural in this area for the Disney100 celebration would make a lot of sense and it would align with the “along the walkway to World Showcase” part of Disney’s conflicting description.

    1. The post he left by the way was unpaid. I noticed you didn’t put that in your headline. But go ahead and spin the news the way you want

    2. Oh, a mural. Yeah, that’ll revive EPCOT, along with a giant IP shrub. Recall EPCOT of the late 90s and it’s sad how much the place has declined into static BS and IP. I don’t count GOTG because an IP thrill ride has no place in EPCOT.
