The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board of Supervisors has unanimously approved a roughly 30% increase (on average) to building fees for Walt Disney World and other taxpayers within the District. The increase will amount to a $1.8 million increase in FY2024 in building fees. The total collected building fees will jump from $3.2 million in FY2023 to $5 million in FY2024 thanks to the increase approved at yesterday’s meeting.
According to CFTOD Chief Technical Inspector Kenny Locke, the fee percentage increase is consistent with the last time fees were increased, which was back in 2016. Locke said that the increase was a “direct result” of a request by DeSantis’ Board of Supervisors when they asked the department to cover more of its expenses than it had in the past. No new fee categories have been introduced, according to District Administrator Glen Gilzean.
Board Member Brian Aungst Jr. and Vice Chair Charbel Barakat both briefly expressed concerns over the fee increases but concluded that they were necessary. Locke said that even with the fee increases, the department will not operate at a surplus.
Fees include building permits, plan review fees, revision fees, State of Florida surcharge fees, temporary structure fees, fees for manufactured buildings and trailers, building relocation fees, and permits related to fire alarms, electrical, fire suppression systems, gas, mechanical, plumbing, elevators, escalators, material lifts, and more. Other fees imposed by the District include certificate of operation fees, attraction inspection fees, demolition fees, investigation fees, and many other fees.

It will be nice to see the Court’s rule in for Disney and wipe out everything DeSantis has done ilegall.
They gotta raise the money for the Disney lawsuit somewhere so let’s raise fees and take away from road maintenance.
