Construction Begins on Pool & Water Activity Area with Possible Moana Theming for DVC Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

It’s been a while since we’ve checked in on the construction taking place to bring a brand new Disney Vacation Club tower to life over at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. After visiting Magic Kingdom earlier today, we hopped over to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to take a look at the construction. We’ll have a longer overview of the work later, but we wanted to start with a look at the new work to build a new pool to support the tower.

As you can see in the photo below, the pool is located between the existing longhouse buildings and the tower.

Here’s a closer look at the work taking place for the pool, which might be a zero-entry-style pool when it’s all said and done.

While it’s still early in the project, we can start to see how the pool will take shape thanks to permits filed last year. In this first permit, we can see how the pool will fit into the space between the existing buildings on the right and bottom of the permit, and the new tower on the left. It’s probably worth noting that the permit immediately below is older than the second permit and there are some differences between the two.

In a separate permit concerned with drainage to create the pool area, we can see what appears to be a stingray in the “proposed water activity pool” as labeled above. Of course, with Moana taking hold as the theme for the resort, it’s easy to see how this stingray could play into that theme. Perhaps the entire pool area will be themed to Moana, but we’ll have to wait and see what Disney ends up doing. It also looks like guests can expect to have a hot tub as well. The two permits also illustrate different things, so it’s possible that the discrepancies can be explained that way as well.

The only concept art released for the project doesn’t offer too much insight into the plans for the pool area, which can be seen on the left side of the image below.
