Disney has filed a permit for a dual-launch roller coaster that will be located between Zootopia and Treasure Cove. Here’s a look at the overview of the coaster, with Zootopia to the left of the coaster and the Pirates of the Caribbean Battle for the Sunken Treasure show building to the right.
Here’s a closer look at the layout and buildings. The large load/unload station will feature a dual-load station. It looks like the coaster will go into a reverse launch after exiting the load station, and then find a forward launch about halfway through the ride. The complex will also feature a merchandise shop.
More details such as a theme for the ride and roller coaster type have not been announced. The rumor for a high-speed roller coaster started floating around in August 2021, and by November, Vekoma was announced as the manufacturer of the roller coaster. The August 2021 rumor called for a dual-launch coaster with a track switch feature. The permit above seems to confirm that earlier rumor.
Current rumors suggest that the roller coaster could be themed to a Marvel property. As part of the permit package, it was announced that an official announcement is scheduled for next week. It’s not clear if the announcement is from the government to officially announce the project, or if it will be an announcement from Shanghai Disney. Last month, Shanghai Disney announced the early development of a new attraction.
