Today, Shanghai Disney Resort has announced the initial preparation work of construction of a new attraction within the park. The attraction will be located next to the newly opened Zootopia-themed land, but will be “separately themed”, that is, not themed to Zootopia. Here’s the announcement:
As the resort enters the Year of the Dragon, resort shareholders and management continue to show optimism about Shanghai Disneyland. Recently, the resort began initial preparation work for construction of a separately themed attraction to be located within Shanghai Disneyland, adjacent to Zootopia. The project work is at the initial planning stage and resort shareholders and management look forward to providing more updates as work progresses in the future.
Back in 2021, there was a rumor that the park was seeking a manufacturer for a new, high-speed roller coaster. In its announcement, Shanghai Disney Resort did not say what type of ride the new attraction would be.
Shanghai Disneyland was built with areas ready for expansion, and one such expansion pad that would seemingly fit the bill of being located near the Zootopia-themed land. That expansion pad is situated between Zootopia, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and the Treasure Cove Pirates-themed area. Shanghai Disney Resort will announce more as the development of the project progresses.
Disney CEO Bob Iger has previously announced interest in bringing Marvel-themed properties to Shanghai Disneyland.
