While visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios today, we noticed that the Single Rider line was no longer being offered. Batuuans tell us that the test of Single Rider concluded at the end of July and that the powers that be will analyze the test and make a decision on whether or not to roll out Single Rider as part of a daily offering. Disney World did not respond to a request for comment.
The Single Rider line was a bit controversial in that it skipped past two critical pre-show elements and utilized backstage hallways to move Single Rider guests through the complex pre-shows. Instead of going through the Rey & BB-8 ready room, the Single Rider queue took guests to the launch cavern for the IT-S experience. The IT-S is essentially a ride of its own, complete with an Audio-Animatronic, although it is still considered a pre-show element.
The first half of the test took guests through a more direct hallway, as seen below. The hallway was unthemed, but it was a short distance to walk between the IT-S launchpad and the interior of the Star Destroyer. A second route was also tested that took guests deeper backstage, past a Cast Member restroom and other areas that completely broke any semblance of immersion that you might have had left. The second route was so far backstage that Cast Members told guests that photos were not allowed (unlike the first route, which had no verbal or written rules).
Now, we wait. The Single Rider test was excellent from the perspective of a guest who had been there and done that. Yes, it broke some of the carefully crafted immersion that Rise of the Resistance so carefully executes, but that was communicated to guests before they joined the Single Rider queue. If Disney were to move forward, we hope that they’re able to find a more elegant way to get Single Rider guests through the pre-show areas.
There has been no indication whether or not the Single Rider queue will return to Rise of the Resistance, and the ride was originally built without a Single Rider option in mind. There has been no communication from Disney World to guests about the test outside of a lollipop sign held by a Cast Member when the test was ongoing.
The only way to know that the test was underway, or, in this case, that it had concluded, was to physically go to the front of the Rise of the Resistance attraction. Here are photos showing that the backstage route previously utilized for Single Rider is now closed to guests.
