As EPCOT attractions continue to get some love and restoration, Spaceship Earth is the next attraction to get an old effect restored. We’ve previously reported on changes at Living with the Land, but with the Spaceship Earth overhaul now apparently canceled, it’s back to restoring old effects. To be clear, we love to see attractions in their full working shape, so we’re not knocking the recent restoration, we’re just let down by some of the canceled or budget-cut portions of the EPCOT overhaul project. Back to Spaceship Earth.
The effect, which was part of the 1994-2007 Jeremy Irons version of the ride, can be found during the descent portion of the ride. Since 2008, guests have been distracted by an interactive screen where they are invited to picture their own futuristic life. That said, it looks like someone, somewhere decided that it was time to restore this old effect. It’s sort of a poetic effect, with a lightning bolt present in the opening scene of the attraction and this restored effect acting as a sort of bookend to the experience.
