The Astro Orbiter attraction in Magic Kingdom will be closing in January for a lengthy refurbishment. According to Walt Disney World, the Astro Orbiter will be closed starting January 13, 2025 and it won’t reopen until sometime during the summer.

Astro Orbiter Closing for Refurbishment
Here’s the announcement from Walt Disney World about the closure:
Astro Orbiter will be temporarily closed for refurbishment beginning January 13, 2025, and is planned to reopen in the summer of 2025.
Disney hasn’t said what work, specifically, will be done on the Astro Orbiter, but a refurbishment of this length suggests some extensive work. It’s also possible that the location of the attraction will add some extra time to a refurbishment that might otherwise be shorter if the attraction was more accessible for crews.
It’s possible that we could see some ride system maintenance alongside a more traditional refresh such as a new coat of paint. It’s also possible that we could see some visual changes with the Astro Orbiter as Tomorrowland sort of continues to see a visual refresh of the theming of the land.

Astro Orbiter is a classic spinner-style attraction that sits atop the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover loading platform in the heart of Tomorrowland. On the Astro Orbiter, guests board a rocket to take a spin around the planets. Guests can control the orbit of their spaceship with controls that allow them to make the rocket go higher or lower during the ride.
