Demolition Continues in Muppets Courtyard Area Ahead of Monsters Inc. Takeover

With Muppets Courtyard’s days numbered, we’re spending a little bit more time there when we visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios. As you may know, the entire Muppets Courtyard, or Grand Park, area at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will soon be transformed into a Monsters Inc. land, replacing MuppetVision 3D, Mama Melrose, and PizzeRizzo while demolishing the Stage 1 Company Store. In fact, we could sort of say that work is already underway with the long overdue demolition of a former Streets of America facade right next to MuppetVision 3D. I’m not willing to give Disney credit for making good on their promise to begin construction for Monsters Inc. land just yet. We’ll have to see some closures and proper construction, which will likely take place later this year. Let’s take a closer look.

Facade Demolition in Muppets Courtyard

Back in May 2024, Walt Disney World began the process of demolishing the longstanding Streets of America facade ahead of an announcement that Monsters Inc. would take over the area. Of course, the fact that Disney was concerned with removing the facade after letting it stand untouched for eight years was a sign that development was going to occur in the area. The only question was, what was going to happen?

At the 2024 D23 Expo, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro announced that Monsters Inc. would be coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. While many fans believed that Monsters Inc. would end up in Animation Courtyard, the facade demolition was the canary in the coal mine, indicating that Monsters Inc. would, in fact, take over the Muppets Courtyard area, officially named Grand Park.

It would take Walt Disney World three months to confirm that Monsters Inc. land was taking over Muppets Courtyard. Disney plans on starting construction of the Monsters Inc. land sometime this year, and the facade that we’ve been watching has had some changes since we last checked in.

As you can see in our photos below, the structure is only metal now and is likely to be completely demolished soon as this is where the Monsters Inc. Door Coaster will be located.

For reference, this facade is at the back of the land, with the Cast Member parking lot located beyond it. The Stage 1 Company Store, which will be completely demolished, sits to the left of the image below, with the MuppetVision 3D building located on the far right.

Time is ticking, Kermit

Here is the latest concept art released for Monsters Inc. land, followed by an annotated version of the artwork to give you a better idea of the layout. The facade that we’re tracking in this article is roughly located where the entrance to the Monsters Inc. Door Coaster will be.
