Disney CEO Bob Iger Addresses Concerns of High Prices for Theme Park Tickets

In a shareholder meeting this afternoon, Disney CEO Bob Iger addressed recent concerns about the rising cost of a ticket to the Disney Parks. Earlier this year, a Wall Street Journal report said that Disney was concerned about high ticket prices as guest intent-to-return scores reportedly dropped. A day later, The Walt Disney Company issued a press release that responded to that pricing criticism. Now, Iger was asked about pricing concerns again.

Bob Iger Addresses Ticket Pricing Concerns

The question from a shareholder was about Disney’s ability to keep up with rising attendance and whether Disney is concerned about increased pricing. Iger said that it is a question that he thinks about all the time.

Iger started by noting that demand is strong at the theme parks, saying that he visited Walt Disney World earlier this month and saw the crowds at the theme parks, resorts, and Disney Springs. Iger also spoke to the notion of value, saying that the value of a Disney theme park visit is “tremendous”, especially when compared to other entertainment offerings such as sporting events and concerts.

Iger also discussed expansion efforts at Disney Parks around the world, saying that there are more projects underway now than ever before in the company’s history. Iger says that the expansions are meant to not only improve capacity at the theme parks but to also increase value.

Shifting to the question of pricing concerns, Iger repeated information that we’ve heard from executives before, honing in on the lowest-tier ticket pricing at Disneyland, and that it hasn’t increased since before the COVID-19 shutdown.

Iger then said that Disney is seeing strong guest satisfaction scores and intent-to-visit scores that are “very high”.

  1. Disney keeps raising prices and destroying iconic attractions to put up newer ((less desirable) attractions, rather than expanding these new rides to the huge amount of empty land they own. It’s a testament to Walt Disney and possibly to an extent, Bob Eisner that Disney can get away with this so long, due to the incredible goodwill they had accumulated when the company was run by more magical, less accountant managers. So Bob Iger is basically saying “suck it”, you chumps are still coming so we’ll keep raising revenue by taking every penny you have. That and soak the Uber Rich who apparently don’t bat an eye at $15,000 a week or more for a vacation.

  2. I cannot believe a word that man said , he is not concerned about middle Americans his concern is about his bonus

  3. When is iger leaving. Under him movies have been awful and not profitable so they’ve been trying to recoup their losses via travel and it’s driving prices to ridiculous heights and you get so much less for your money. For me Iger ruined this company.

  4. I am taking my family to Cancun, Mexico for a week. I can stay at a beautiful all inclusive resort for $3,500 less for the week. Price includes 2 queen beds, ocean view and transportation to and from the airport. I priced Pop Century, 6 day tickets without hoppers, dining plan. Price did not include transportation to and from the airport or Lightening Lanes. THRITY FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS MORE.

I think I’ll stay Universal next time we go to Orlando, just to stick it to the mouse.

  5. Totally agree. $15K is cheap for a trip. I like higher prices. They keep the random lower class people out. I would gladly pay more for a high level experience.

  6. Tiger lives in his own echo chamber. The only thing he can comprehend is the bottom line. Everything else is just noise.
So as long as the sheeple are willing to pay, he will charge more and more.

  7. He needs to leave. We opened Iger after Chapek, only to see that Iger was also a Wolf in sheep’s clothing. Save our Rivers!

  8. The only reason the parks look full, is because so many rides/adventures are shut down. So, the people all have to congest on the remaining ones or out in the walkways. Also, it was Spring Break.
Iger’s answer for the high costs was ridiculous. Disney is out pricing itself. He also talked about the ticket discount. Well….that is only offered to Florida residents and it is only for weekdays. The annual passes are ridiculously expensive. On top of block-out dates, one has to make a reservation. The system doesn’t show days open for annual passes, but does for daily ticket purchases. The whole thing is really garbage.
As a shareholder, I am not impressed or happy about all of this.
