Frozen Summer Fun: Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post

It’s summer and it’s Frozen at Hollywood Studios!

Today marked the first day of Frozen Summer Fun at Hollywood Studios. This event runs every day from now until September 1, 2014. The event will be filled with a parade, ice skating, a dedicated gift shop, and fireworks. Today we visited Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post located in between Backlot Tour and Toy Story Midway Mania in Soundstage One. There are two parts to this experience, the Trading Post and Frozen Funland. Here’s what we thought:

Wandering Oaken’s Frozen Funland (Open from park opening – 8pm)

This is the main attraction. The Frozen Funland is where you can find real snow, an ice rink, food and beverages, and a large backdrop to take photos against. When you finally get out of the long outside queue and hot Florida sun you find yourself at the front door of Oaken’s Trading post.

A few more steps of (indoor) queue and you enter the Frozen Funland. This space is fairly large and is the exact same space that was used for Darth’s Mall during Star Wars weekend. As you can see in the photo below the ice rink takes up most of the space with the play snow ground to the left of the rink and photo op/food and beverage spot located to the right of the rink.
This fun post has signs that point you in the right direction.
You can also build snowmen in the real snow. I was able to spot a few plastic molds for sand snow castles that you can use to help you build. If you have kids this is a great spot to let them have fun in the snow while on your Florida vacation! There is a line to access this “attraction”, but it won’t be long as Cast Member’s are monitoring the number of guests who enter and leave the Frozen Funland.
The main attraction is the ice rink and it will cost you $10/30 minutes if you want to skate. If you’re planning on skating, note that you will need to wear a helmet and Cast Members limit the amount of people who can skate at one time to ensure it doesn’t get too crowded. If you’ve made it this far, what’s another few minutes to be able to skate in Hollywood Studios during the heat of summer!
Our next stop is the “Sweet Treat Bar”. Here you’ll find all kinds of Frozen themed sweet treats and beverages. You can either go the cold route with frozen Frozen drinks or warm with hot cocoa. Here is a look at the menu:
On your way out (or in as you use the same set of doors to go in and out) you can take a picture against a Frozen themed backdrop. One cool thing to note is that there are a lot of these different backdrops around the park and they use virtual reality and the Aurasma app to put you next to your favorite characters. (I don’t have a picture of this, but I will update the article when I do.)
Oaken’s Trading Outpost – (Open from park opening – Park closing)

After you exit the Frozen Funland (and there is no rush) you enter the Trading Post. It is here that you can pick up all of your Frozen merchandise. From plush to plastic dolls, tee shirts to dresses, and light-up wands to sketches of your favorite characters, the Trading Post has all things Frozen! Yes, they even have Anna, Elsa, and Olaf MagicBands. The MagicBands are $20 and unlike the Star Wars Weekends MagicBands these ones are not limited edition and do not have any special effects at FastPass+ gates (…yet?). If you forgot to get your sweets while in the Frozen Funland, you can grab whatever your heart desires here.

One nice thing to note is that you can have your merchandise sent to your room (if you’re staying on Disney property) or to the front of the park for you to pick up on your way out so you don’t have to carry it around all day. After you’ve spent enough time and money on Frozen for one day it is back out to the hot Florida sun.
If you have any questions please ask them in the comments section below and I will gladly try to answer them or go back to the park for more “research”!
