Early Hint at Possible Opening Timeframe for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom

With Disney seemingly missing a couple of opportunities to announce an opening date for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, many fans are wondering when, exactly, the attraction will open. As of publish time, all Disney World has said is that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open sometime this summer at Magic Kingdom. Of course, the first date that comes to mind when Disney World says “summer” is Memorial Day Weekend. That’s the unofficial start of summer at the resort, and it has been used in years past to launch summer ride openings.

When looking at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, a Memorial Day Weekend opening seems to be too soon, and Disney may have just offered an early hint as to the timing of when they plan on opening the attraction. One step above throwing darts at the calendar, and two steps above reading tea leaves, is reading the Cast Member blockout schedule, so that’s what we’ll do.

As you can see below, Cast Members are blocked out from visiting Magic Kingdom starting June 3rd. To us, this indicates that Disney believes that there will be a significant increase in attendance at Magic Kingdom starting June 3rd. My bet is that a new cupcake isn’t the cause of the anticipated increase in attendance.

Now, the fact that Magic Kingdom is blocked for Cast Members starting June 3rd doesn’t necessarily mean that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will be opening June 3rd. In fact, I don’t think it will be open to the public on June 3rd. Instead, I think that the blackouts indicate the start of the general Cast Member preview period for the attraction, with a late June public opening more likely. It’s possible that Magic Kingdom Cast Members will be able to ride sometime next month.

As far as we know, Disney World has not announced Cast Member preview dates for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure yet, and there is still a bit of work to be completed on the exterior of the ride. New scaffolding was installed as recently as this week as crews continue reimagining the ride. Beyond that, we would expect that Disney World will offer Annual Passholder previews sometime in June, following Cast Member previews. An opening in time for the Fourth of July holiday seems likely, but not guaranteed.

For completeness, here’s a look at the blockout calendar for the other three theme parks. Note that they do not have the same blockout dates as Magic Kingdom – further proof that something is afoot for the month of June as it relates to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
