Disney has unveiled new lightsaber chassis and blade enhancements for Savi’s Workshop at Walt Disney World and Disneyland, adding a thermal cutting effect, a spinning effect, and deflection effects. The upgrades apply to every lightsaber, no matter the hilt theme, and include upgraded audio quality and smoother blade activation, Disney says. An updated white and gold Protection and Defense hilt theme joins the lineup as well. Here’s the latest.

Savi’s Workshop in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge lets guests assemble a custom lightsaber at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and at Disneyland. The latest update focuses on what the finished lightsaber can do, with new effects built into every chassis and blade. It also refreshes one of the four year-round hilt themes with a new look.
Disney says it has enhanced each lightsaber chassis and blade, no matter the hilt theme, with these brand-new features:
- A thermal cutting effect
- A spinning effect
- Deflection effects
Upgraded audio quality and smoother blade activation also create an even more immersive experience, Disney says. Since the enhancements apply to every theme, guests who pick any hilt theme get them.
A color-change effect is the other new feature, and Disney says pairing a lightsaber with special “cracked” kyber crystals unlocks it with a quick flick of the wrist. The effect showcases the inner battle between the light side and the dark side of the Force.
Updated Protection and Defense Hilt Theme
Disney says a refreshed Protection and Defense series hilt is now available and features striking white finishes and rich gold detailing. Each lightsaber carries mysterious ancient Jedi iconography. The design celebrates the optimism and grandeur of the High Republic while honoring those who dedicated themselves to protecting others. Disney describes the theme as a reflection of “a time when the Order stood as a symbol of peace and hope across the galaxy.”
Protection and Defense is one of four year-round hilt themes, and we covered a round of new Protection and Defense parts in January 2023. The limited-time Reclaimed and Reforged theme debuted on May 4th, 2025. Power and Control then received new pieces in May 2026, with black, silver, and red finishes.
How to Book Savi’s Workshop
Disney highly encourages advance reservations at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Every builder must purchase their lightsaber, and at Walt Disney World, Disney lists the price at $274.99 for Walt Disney World and $249.99 at Disneyland.
Guests can check availability on the Walt Disney World website or in the My Disney Experience app. A limited number of same-day reservations may be available up to two hours in advance. Disney’s cancellation policy charges full price if a guest cancels within one day of the reservation or does not show up.
