Monstropolis Is Looking Roar-some as Final Themed Paint Arrives

Most of the Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza building at Disney’s Hollywood Studios now has its themed paint in Monstropolis, giving us our first look at the final colors. We stopped by to check out the progress recently, and the red brick, bronze columns, and cream trim all look finished. Crews are also adding window details at the back of the site and installing an aluminum facade on another building. Here’s the latest.

Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza Paint and New Monstropolis Facade Details

Construction scaffolding surrounds a building themed for Monstropolis at Disney World.

IN THIS ARTICLE:

  • Most of Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza now has finished paint, though some gray shingles still await a final coat of color
  • Window details are appearing on a building toward the back of the site
  • Crews are installing aluminum facade on a third building behind heavy scaffolding

Painting the Pizza Place

Monstropolis is taking over the former Muppets Courtyard, and its buildings are moving through different stages of the transformation as Disney targets a 2027 opening timeframe. The biggest change from our last visit is paint at Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza. Two other buildings are still earlier in the theming process. One has window details over a gray base coat, and crews are fitting aluminum facade over the structure of the other.

During our September visit, we saw crews installing toothy trim along the roofline at Archie’s. We covered the August reveal of the PizzeRizzo replacement as well. Disney says the quick-service restaurant centers on Archie, the six-legged Fear Tech mascot from “Monsters University.”

Red-painted brick runs across the walls, topped by a cream sawtooth trim line that reflects the teeth we first spotted in July. The columns carry a speckled bronze finish with round bolt heads, which keeps the weathered riveted metal look. A cream color surrounds frame the arched windows, each with a sawtooth sill. Pointed extensions at the top of the surrounds appear to be the horn-shaped frame details from that same July report, and warm orange panels fill the arches.

Up top, scalloped shingles fill the gable beneath a cream roofline trim. Some shingles still appear to be gray and pitted, which suggests final color has yet to arrive. The rooftop water tower, a holdover from the Muppets Courtyard days, sports a finished paint in a weathered yellow wood look, with a teal stack beside it.

On the front of the building, steel and aluminum arches frame the outdoor balcony seating area. They are still bare metal, so we’ll continue to keep an eye out for the finished theming there. Crews are working on the upper scaffold levels and appear to be fitting trim details onto the facade at the entrance to the quick-service eatery.

Scaffolding still covers most of the building, so the full effect is yet to be revealed. Disney says Archie’s will open in 2027 as part of Monstropolis’ phased opening, but has not announced a specific date.

Window Details Continue to Appear

Toward the back of what’s visible of the land from outside the construction walls, we could see crews adding new details to a second building. This building is behind the process on Archie’s. It looks like Disney is working from front to back on Monstropolis. That means that we could start to see scaffolding come down at the front of the land anywhere from a few weeks to a couple of months.

The window details are the main change here. White surrounds with sawtooth sills frame each opening beneath a white cornice, which matches the toothy trim style at Archie’s. Blue and tan coverings fill most of the windows, while plywood covers one window.

Near the top of the wall, a light blue angular piece sits against the cornice. It’s one of the new details, though we don’t think the light blue is the final paint color here.

The Glob’s red brick facade is visible at the far right edge of our wide shot, where scaffolding came down in September. That contrast shows how much of the land still waits on paint and final theming details. That said, it’s coming along rather swiftly and a Summer 2027 opening seems within reach.

Crews Install Aluminum Facade on a Third Building

Behind a dense wall of scaffolding, crews are installing aluminum facade on top of a third building’s structure. Little of the facade is visible from our vantage point, but the framing underneath shows what appears to be a peaked gable at the top and curved, arch-shaped framing around the windows at the mid-level.

Several stacks of wrapped material sit on the scaffold decks. They appear to be drywall or a waterproofing material, though it’s tough to make out from here. Most of the building still shows bare metal framing, so this one appears to be the earliest of the three. More of the facade should come into view as the work continues.
