Cosmic Rewind Pre-Show Changed to Remove Obnoxious Guest Yelling Moment

Walt Disney World has removed a brief pause that invited guests to shout out during the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind pre-show at EPCOT. Terry Crews, as Centurion Tal Marik, still asks, “Does anyone know what they call themselves?” but the video now “glitches” and jumps straight to his next line of dialogue. Videos posted online, including one from @WEDenterprise on Twitter, show the change. Disney has not given a reason for the change, but it is almost certainly designed to remove a moment that guests have used to shout obnoxious things. Here’s the latest.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Pre-Show Change at EPCOT

IN THIS ARTICLE:

  • What Centurion Tal Marik says in the pre-show and where the pause used to be.
  • How the new glitch moves the scene straight to his next line.
  • How the change appears in videos so far.

Marik’s search for the right name for EPCOT guests is a comical first meeting with the character. It comes just before guests step into the Phase Chamber for the teleportation moment. One short beat in that scene now plays differently as Marik wonders aloud what EPCOT guests call themselves. The pause after his question is gone, and the scene keeps moving. There is no change to the actual dialog itself. Instead, the timing of the dialog changes.

On the way to that question, Marik tries out names like “EPCOT-ers” and “EPCOT-ians” as he searches for the right way to address the people of EPCOT. Then he pauses and asks for help.

In the old version of the pre-show, the video waited after that question. The pause ran long enough to encourage guests to yell out an answer, and a go-to response for many aspiring comedians was “alcoholics.” The punchline was often funniest to the guest who delivered it.

What the Updated Moment Looks Like Now

In the updated version, the video “glitches” right after Marik’s question and moves immediately to his next line of dialogue. Guests no longer get the pause, so the room has no opening to shout back.

Based on the videos, the change affects only the moment right after the question, and Marik’s name search plays out as before. The result is a moment that keeps the pre-show moving, removing the invitation for a less-than-savory response.
