Terrans looking for the full Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind experience have been out of luck for at least a couple of weeks. While visiting EPCOT recently, we jumped in line for Cosmic Rewind only to find that a key part of the pre-show experience is broken.
Cosmic Rewind Pre-Show Broken
If you’ve ever experienced the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction, you’ll know that the multi-room pre-show experience culminates with a real “wow moment”…usually. When it’s working, there is a wonderful teleportation effect that brings us to a Nova Corps ship.
Unfortunately, that effect is broken. According to Cast Members that we spoke with, the teleportation effect has been broken for a few weeks. While we typically don’t harp too much on small effects that can be fixed overnight or even during the day, but this is a pretty significant part of the story and experience for the Cosmic Rewind attraction, and it hasn’t been addressed for some time.
As you may be able to tell from our photos below, guests walk straight from a pre-show room set in EPCOT, straight onto the Xandarian ship. To illustrate the point, here’s a look back at what the experience is supposed to be.
And here’s a look at what the experience has been like for a few weeks. Guests walk straight from the pre-show room with Glenn Close and Terry Crews into the Nova Corps ship. The pre-show audio that would play with the teleportation room still plays with the current setup.
As a spoiler, the mechanism that isn’t working is the fast-moving wall that typically encloses the space to create the teleportation room. When the teleportation effect happens correctly, the wall quickly rises into the ceiling. The circular wall is partially visible in our archive photo below.
In addition to the broken pre-show effect, operations is still dealing with guests crowding the right side of the room in an effort to reduce their wait time between the pre-show and the boarding area.
A while ago, operations blocked off the middle door and created a makeshift queue funnel to prevent overcrowding. This is really sort of a failure in ride design. While an additional queue after a pre-show is not unique to Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, this crowd behavior certainly is.
We hope that maintenance is able to get the teleportation room effect working shortly, as it’s a really cool moment that guests deserve to be able to experience.

The issue I have is the herd of people rushing to get thru the doors that suddenly need to turn right while allow encountering a true funnel effect as the walkway goes from wide to narrow. It happens in other locations (Haunted Mansion, Tower of Terror, Runaway Train) and always causes issues with parties trying to stay together.
The crowding of the door for the next part is NOT unique to Guardians. The same thing happens in the hologram room on Rise of the Resistance, the theater in Runaway Railroad, the Portrait room in Haunted Mansion, the digitization room on Tron, etc. Have you ridden those rides? Come on. You can do better.
