Tonight is the last night of the Main Street Electrical Parade at the Magic Kingdom

After a 39 year, on again, off again presence at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World, the Main Street Electrical Parade is glowing away forever tonight.

The Main Street Electrical Parade made its Walt Disney World debut on June 11, 1977 and ran for an impressive 14 years, ending September 14, 1991. The parade was then sent to Disneyland Paris and SpectroMagic took over at the Magic Kingdom. In May of 1999, the Magic Kingdom received a present in the form of Disneyland’s version of the Main Street Electrical Parade. It enjoyed a short run at the park until April of 2001. Once again, SpectroMagic was back in the Magic Kingdom from April of 2001 until it’s final showing in June of 2010. We once again received Disneyland’s floats on the east coast and have been enjoying them at the Magic Kingdom since June of 2010.

All of that history comes to an end tonight with a final showing at 11pm. After that, the floats are headed out west to have a final run at Disneyland before glowing away into Disney history.

Unbelievably, Disney has not announced a replacement for the Main Street Electrical Parade at the Magic Kingdom. That means that we’ll be without a nighttime parade for the foreseeable future. While Boo To You and Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime parade will continue through the holiday season, there will be no nighttime parade for non-party night guests through at least the remainder of 2016. Disney is rumored to be working on an all new nighttime parade, but we wouldn’t hear more about that until 2017 at the earliest.
