Last night, nearly 20 attractions were closed for hours at Magic Kingdom following a power outage that led to a failure of the park-wide air compression system. The failure appeared to begin in the 6pm hour, lasting for 2-3 hours. The reason for the outage was reported by journalist Scott Gustin.
Magic Kingdom Attraction Outages
While it’s not necessarily uncommon for power outages to lead to attraction downtime, this was particularly difficult given that it wasn’t just an electrical issue. Power outages can generally be corrected relatively quickly, and are most common during the summer months at Walt Disney World. What made this outage more difficult was the impact to the compressed air system that stretched across more attractions than a typical power outage does.
The compressed air system issues were resolved last night, and attractions were operating back to normal before the park closed to guests at 10pm. Disney was also able to host the Disney After Hours event without issue, which takes place after park close.
Guests who were on the attractions were safely evacuated following the power outage and the resulting impact on the compressed air system.
