As we conclude our aerial tour around Walt Disney World, we take a look at the massive upgrade and expansion to the Hollywood Studios parking lot and entrance roads. Let’s dive in.
First, here’s a look at the current Buena Vista Drive entrance. This would be the entrance that all busses and many on-property guests would use. The trees to the right of the entrance plaza have been cleared out and grading of the ground is ongoing. It’s possible that Disney is looking to widen this area for greater bus access.
A look at the current parking lots reveals that all of the canals and accompanying trees have been removed from the lots.
The foreground of the next photo reveals the expansion area of the parking lot work. The background contains Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Toy Story Land and Hollywood Studios proper.
Cropping in a bit, we’re able to see the construction of a Cast wardrobe building.
Looking almost directly below us, we can see an area of dirt that fell victim to a landslide during a period of heavy rain and caused a majority of the parking lot to close. The area is represented by a black tarp and what appears to be a water pump.
Looking towards World Drive, we can see a lot of work is going on for the new parking lot access road. This will act as both a new entrance and exit to the parking lot when work is complete.
Cropping in a bit we can see vertical construction near the road on what will eventually be a flyover.
Here’s a shot that shows both the expanded parking lot area to the left and the new access road to the right.
Here’s where the new toll booth area and connection point to the existing parking lot will be once the work is completed.
While Disney hasn’t put an end date on the work, it is likely that it will be completed in 2019 when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens.
