REVIEW: Churro Ice Cream Sandwich and Foot-Long Corn Dog at Sleepy Hollow in Magic Kingdom

Even though character-inspired ice cream cones are all the rage right now, we decided to stop in to Sleepy Hollow in Magic Kingdom to try a few of their “newer” snacks that we haven’t had the opportunity to yet.

Churro Ice Cream Sandwich – $6.99

There likely hasn’t been a more botched rollout of a new treat at Walt Disney World in the past few years than the Churro Ice Cream Sandwich. Originally announced by Disney via tweet in April of last year, the tweet was later deleted, and it wouldn’t be until two months later that the treat actually debuted. We were there on the day that Disney announced it only to find that Cast Members had no idea what the tweet was talking about and managers said they didn’t even have the kitchen equipment necessary to make such a treat. By the time it did actually debut, it was far from our minds and the minds of everyone else. We decided to change that after a round of delicious character-inspired ice cream cones yesterday morning. With all of that out of the way, how was it?

Even though it is called a ice cream sandwich, it’s impossible to eat like a sandwich. A huge portion of ice cream sits between two wonderfully made churros. Initial reviews of the churro portion of the sandwich weren’t so great, but we found ours to be nice and warm with the slight crunch that we’ve come to expect from a churro. Walt Disney World churros don’t have the best reputation when compared to Disneyland, and for good reason. That said, this is the best churro you’ll find on property today. It’s soft on the inside with a slight crunch on the outside, and a wonderful cinnamon flavor follows you throughout.

As much as I could talk about the churro, there is still a lot of ice cream inside of the sandwich. The vanilla ice cream is “standard”, but nice and holds its own for about 2 minutes before melting away in the Florida heat. I will say this, the churro only got better as it soaked up the vanilla ice cream.

Again, despite the “sandwich” name, this is best attacked with a fork and knife initially, and a spoon to finish it off when the ice cream melts. At $7, it’s maybe a bit pricey, but there really is a lot of snack here. Out of pocket it might be $1 “too much”, but for a Disney Dining Snack Credit, it’s a good deal. We’d recommend this treat either way!

    Foot-long Corn Dog – $10.99

Next up is the foot-long corn dog.The foot-long corn dog is less than a month old and is the “newest” item on the Sleepy Hollow menu. The novelty here is the “foot-long” length and at $11, you’re certainly paying a premium per inch. Seen below, the corn dog is larger than the plate served on, even if it doesn’t quite reach a full foot long. The corn dog is served with housemade chips that can be found at a lot of other locations around Magic Kingdom and Walt Disney World.

Overall, there really isn’t enough here to make this interesting. It’s a standard corn dog, and at $11, it’s overpriced. You can easily pass on the foot long corn dog.
