The Oriental Land Company (OLC) has just announced that the ‘Beauty and the Beast’-themed area and other expansions will open on April 15, 2020 at Tokyo Disneyland. The “New Fantasyland” area will include the Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast attraction, Fantasyland Forest Theater, and restaurants and shops in Belle’s village. In addition to New Fantasyland, a new Baymax-themed attraction and Minnie Mouse meet and greet will open as well. All of this work represents the largest redevelopment in the history of Tokyo Disneyland and the OLC is reporting the cost of the expansion at just under $700 million.
Here’s a look at some of the concept art released to give you a better idea of what you can expect when the New Fantasyland area (and beyond) opens.
Here’s the New Fantasyland portion of the concept art.
Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast
This attraction will allow guests to follow Belle and Beast on a romantic musical adventure in vehicles that dance in rhythm to the animated film’s well-known music. The experience time will be about 8 minutes long, and each vehicle will hold up to 10 guests.
Beast’s Castle will serve as the entrance to the attraction.
Guests will be able to get FastPasses for the attraction at themed kiosks at Maurice’s Cottage.
Gaston’s Tavern
Guests looking to grab a bite to eat will be able to visit Gaston’s Tavern, a counter service restaurant.
Village Shops
There will also be shopping in the Village Shops.
Fantasyland Forest Theater
In addition to the Beauty and the Beast-themed area, there will be a brand new, full-scale indoor theater in New Fantasyland. There isn’t any news on what show will be in the Fantasyland Forest Theater, but the OLC says that it will have live entertainment featuring Disney friends.
The Happy Ride with Baymax
In addition to the New Fantasyland area, construction has been taking place on an attraction that will be a part of the neighboring Tomorrowland. The Happy Ride with Baymax will be a spinner whip attraction like Alien Swirling Saucers or Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree. The attraction will be themed to Baymax, a first for Tokyo Disneyland.
There will also be a new popcorn specialty shop called Big Pop as part of the Baymax expansion to Tomorrowland.
Minnie’s Style Studio
At Minnie’s Style Studio, guests will be able to meet and greet Minnie Mouse. Minnie’s Style Studio is an expansion to Toontown.
