With Florida having already passed the peak predicted healthcare resource usage according to Healthdata.org, the mayor of Orange County is putting together a task force to look into reopening the economy. It is worth noting up front that no timelines have been established as to when the economy could reopen, but a task force has been assembled. The task force contains over 50 members from local businesses and more.

Representing Disney is Thomas Mazloum, the Senior Vice President of Resorts and Transportation Operations. According to Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, Disney will play a critical role on the task force, having more experience with operations and reopenings thanks to a phased approach at Shanghai Disneyland. Of course, with Walt Disney World as the largest single-site employer in the nation, they would have quite the seat at the table anyway, but Demings is specifically looking to build on the operational experience of the Company.

“These are some of the best and brightest minds in our community, and the public-private Task Force will come up with recommendations to reopen Orange County using the most safe and sensible avenues possible,” said Mayor Jerry Demings.

“I am confident we will be able to get Orange County and Orlando on the way to economic recovery while we save both lives and livelihoods.”

The group will focus on recommendations for reopening Orange County, including a phased approach to easing restrictions, while ensuring the safety of employees and the public.

The first meeting is set for Wednesday, April 22, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and will be conducted virtually.
