Disney Seeking EPCOT World Showcase Cultural Representatives for 2021

According to a recent job posting, Disney has begun to recruit Cultural Representatives for the Mexico Pavilion in EPCOT’s World Showcase.

The job opening was posted to the Disney Careers website yesterday, just a few days after we wrote that Disney had entered into an agreement with unions that allows them to staff World Showcase with Cast Members “who do not meet the culturally authentic theming at EPCOT”.

Here’s a look at the job posting:

The Cultural Representative Program is a twelve-month work experience located at Walt Disney World® Resort, near Orlando, Florida. Participants have the opportunity to share the unique culture and customs of their country with Guests, while working different front line, guest facing roles. Participants must authentically represent one of the countries or regions we have recreated in look and feel at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Countries and regions represented are: Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, Norway, Southeast Asia (India, Indonesia, Thailand), Sub-Saharan Africa (Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe), and United Kingdom.

Within the World Showcase at Epcot, there are eight independent participant companies that have contracts with Disney. These companies (Operating Participants) were selected for the unique contributions in cuisine or merchandise they offer from their home countries. Cultural Representatives working in these areas are employees of the Operating Participant company, but still part of Disney International Programs.

Accepting applications for positions that could start between January and June 2021.

Application deadline is June 12th, 2020.

Many Disney fans were wondering how Disney would be able to staff World Showcase pavilions, given that they sent all of the Cultural Representatives back to their home countries when the parks closed back in March.

In case you aren’t aware, World Showcase pavilions typically feature Cultural Representatives that are from the actual country that they work in at EPCOT. For example, you’ll find Cast Members working in the United Kingdom pavilion that are actually from the United Kingdom. This adds to the immersive theming of each World Showcase pavilion and is really a shining feature of EPCOT that will not be present when the parks reopen.
