Equity Actor Cast Members Speak Out Against Ongoing Union Battle With Disney, “We Feel Safe to Go Back to Work”

A group of over 70 Cast Members who are represented by the Actors’ Equity Association (AEA) have taken to YouTube to speak out against the stance that the union has taken against Disney World at the negotiating table. The AEA represents Cast Members who put on the shows all across Disney World and is demanding that Disney provide testing and allow Cast Members to wear masks while in their costumes. Disney has said that they want to bring back stage shows to the theme parks, but have been unable to reach an agreement with the union.

Titled #BringBacktheMagic, the video features a myriad of Walt Disney World performers and familiar faces sharing how Disney makes them feel. From “inspired” to “valued” to “safe”, the video also contains the following statement from the performers:

This video represents those of us who feel safe to go back to work under the safety protocols laid out by Disney. Our original intention was to send it to Disney leadership as well as AEA to convey our personal feelings. It was not meant for the public although the thought of sharing it as a celebration when we were finally able to go back to work was a possibility we spoke about. We are aware that not all members agree with us, and we donโ€™t claim to speak for everyone but the public and aggressive social media action taken by AEA does not reflect all of itsโ€™ represented members and those cast members were not consulted prior to them being carried out. We now feel that we deserve to have our voices heard as well
