A permit has been filed with the state that might give a hint to just how long the Big Blue Pool refurbishment at Disney’s Art of Animation will be. While Disney has removed previously published information about the refurbishment of the Big Blue Pool, this permit indicates that work is still scheduled.
The work description is simply listed as “general construction”, but the interesting part of the permit is the December 31, 2021 expiration date. While expiration dates aren’t always indicative of the actual end date of the project, they typically expire one year from the filing date. The fact that this permit has a typed date of longer than the standard one year expiration date could indicate a lengthy refurbishment.
Disney’s Art of Animation Resort is not scheduled to open until November 1st, but it’s possible that the Big Blue Pool will not be open when the resort reopens. It is worth noting that Disney has removed any wording about the Big Blue Pool refurbishment after previously listing the following information:
Beginning in fall 2020, The Big Blue Pool will be closed for refurbishment. While this work takes place, our other exhilarating pool and recreation offerings will remain open for your enjoyment—including Flippin’ Fins Pool, Cozy Cone Pool, and the Schoolyard Sprayground.
Noise may be heard while this work is being completed, but noise should not be heard from Guest rooms between dusk and 9:00 AM. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and appreciate your patience and understanding.
We’ll continue to keep an eye on the situation at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort and keep you updated as more information becomes available.
