As Disney World slowly begins to reopen more experiences and performances after the COVID-19 shutdowns, equity performers are finally beginning to return to the parks.
As you might remember, the Actors’ Equity union and Disney World had a rather public spat over a safe return to work that ultimately led to the union signing a memorandum of understanding once a COVID-19 testing site was announced to open near Walt Disney World.
After the memo of understanding was signed, there was no word about equity performers returning to work until the recent announcement that the Dapper Dans and Savi’s Workshop would be returning on September 20th. As you may know, both the Dapper Dans and Savi’s Workshop are staffed with equity performers.
Savi’s Workshop “Gatherer” and Disney Parks Live presenter Mark Daniel recently took to Twitter to share his excitement about returning to work after a 185 day furlough.
While the return of select equity performers is certainly exciting, there are no other shows or experiences currently announced to reopen beyond the two above. As we wait for more shows to return, temporary shows have popped up in the place of typically equity-staffed shows at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
