The first of many dominos to fall as a result of COVID-19 was the Disney College Program (DCP) back in early March. Just a few days before the theme parks closed, Disney announced that the Disney College Program would be ending abruptly.

Out of all the projects to be negatively impacted by the COVID-19 closures and resulting economic downturn, the timing could not have been worse for the ambitious new sister campus construction projects for new Disney College Program participants. As you may know, Disney would not only provide a place of work for College Program participants, but also housing. The aging Vista Way apartment complex was set to host its last DCP participants this summer as Disney transferred new hires over to the Flamingo Crossings campuses. Unfortunately, COVID-19 hit just weeks before the first DCP participants were set to move into the east campus at Flamingo Crossings Village.

While the east campus was set to welcome participants this summer, the west campus still hadn’t gone vertical when the parks were shut down. You can see the east and west campuses in this overlaid permit map, oriented north.

Just last night we decided to take a look at the latest work taking place in the greater Flamingo Crossings area and found that Disney and their partner American Campus Communities have made some remarkable progress on the west campus of new Disney College Program housing. Here’s a look at the latest construction, followed by photos of the completed east campus.

While construction continues on the west campus, the east campus appears to be at least 95% completed, which many parts of the campus completed and ready for arrivals. Arrivals that may not come for months, or years given the recent 30% reduction in the domestic Disney Parks workforce, not including the suspension of the Disney College Program.
