At a press conference today, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis spoke about so-called “vaccine passports” – essentially a digital or physical document that shows whether or not a person has received the COVID-19 vaccine.
DeSantis said that the State of Florida does not support vaccine passports. He said that the state’s approach as it relates to the COVID-19 vaccines is to “provide it for all, mandate for none”.
DeSantis went on to say that it is “completely unacceptable” for either the government or private sector to implement a vaccine passport. DeSantis rattled off a variety of scenarios where it would be unacceptable, in his view, to require a vaccine passport. Among the listed activities were movies, sporting events, and theme parks.
When talking about vaccine passports, DeSantis said that he would be taking some emergency, executive action soon to formally reject the implementation of vaccine passports. DeSantis said that the executive action to ban vaccine passports would come later this week.
