The infamous Fantasyland dragon that flew over New Fantasyland on opening night has been spotted in a recent Imagineering video. The dragon, which made a one-night-only appearance in the skies over Magic Kingdom and the New Fantasyland expansion, has not been seen or heard from since that night.

Used as a promotional prop during the New Fantasyland expansion, the “Disney Dragon” could be seen flying in the night sky back on December 5, 2012. Here’s a look at video of the dragon in action!

Back in 2012, it was thought that guests might see the dragon flying over Magic Kingdom periodically, but it was quickly discovered that the dragon would only make a single appearance.

In fact, Disney recently used another promotional prop in the opening days of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Seven years after the Fantasyland Dragon was spotted in the skies over Magic Kingdom, two X-Wings were spotted in the skies over Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

While the Fantasyland Dragon turned out to be a modified paraglider, we exclusively obtained photos of the X-Wing props that turned out to be Boeing drones!

Now, in a new video from Techcrunch showing off a walking Groot figure, we see the Fantasyland Dragon has found a home in the Walt Disney Imagineering offices. The paraglider still has the modified fireworks canons that helped it breathe fire in the skies over Magic Kingdom. While it retired from flight long ago, it appears to serve as inspiration for the Imagineers as evidenced by the X-Wing drone display over Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
