According to new permits filed with the state, Disney is planning on creating a series of new perimeter firework launch points, likely for new fireworks shows – perhaps even the newly announced Disney Enchantment show debuting October 1, 2021 for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary.
As you can see in the overview below, the scope of work encompasses wooded and paved areas north of Magic Kingdom.
In this second image, we can see various areas of work. Here’s how the areas break down:
- C-104: Northwest perimeter launch point near an existing canal
- C-101: A new launch pad near the existing main launch point. It is possible that this launch point will supplement the main launch area, which recently underwent upgrades.
- C-102: This area is a backstage building and not typically associated with fireworks
- C-105: This is a new launch point just north of the TRON Lightcycle Run roller coaster construction site. There used to be a semi-permanent perimeter fireworks launch point here that was lost to the TRON construction.
Here’s a closer look at some of the launch points, complete with reinforced gravel, concrete launch pads, and more.
As you’d expect, the permit does not specify what nighttime show this would be for, but the newly announced Disney Enchantment nighttime spectacular seems to be a good reason for the upgrades.
Late last year, Disney made upgrades to the main fireworks launch point as part of “Project Nugget” – a codename associated with various 50th Anniversary updates to infrastructure.
