Disney World to Receive Millions in Tax Refunds Following Settlement

According to a report from the Orlando Sentinel, Disney will be getting millions in refunds following a settlement agreement.

The exact amount has not been disclosed, but Orange County Tax Collector Scott Randolph estimated that Disney would be due about $1.3 million for tax year 2015 and similar amounts for tax years 2016 through 2020.

Disney has had an ongoing battle with former Orange County Property Appraiser Rick Singh. Some prior assessments made by Singh valued Disney World theme parks in the hundreds of millions of dollars:

  • Magic Kingdom – $504 million
  • EPCOT – $539 million
  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios – $394 million
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom – $435 million

While Disney paid the taxes due, they would always contest the valuation, saying that the assessment was too high.

Universal Orlando and SeaWorld also sued Singh over property value assessments.
